Jason Rich works on his girlfriend’s dad’s farm and seems to suffer from a lack of confidence in his abilities. Good singer, but when he sings Keith Whitley’s country ballad When You Say Nothing At All (also covered by Alison Krauss and Ronan Keating) he just can’t seem to get past the first line, forgetting the lyrics to the song. Finally manages to do so after a last chance offered by the judges.
Rachael Wicker – an arm wrestler from Richmond who has won 6 arm wrestling championships. She says she grew up around a lot of men and hence the macho touch to her. Watch a video clip of her arm wrestle American Idol host Ryan Seacrest and challenge American Idol judge Simon Cowell to a arm wrestling fight. He obviously politely declines the offer and goes on to give her a big NO for her version of the country song Don’t Tell Me by Lee Ann Womack. Judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul allow her to the next round but not before criticising the excess yodel in her country voice. On the way out she does get to arm wrestle one of the judges – Paula Abdul.
Angelica Puente – 17 year old who sings Celine Dion’s Power of Love, originally sung by Jennifer Rush. Apparently this contestant is not on speaking terms with her father and is using American Idol as a platform to reach out back to her Dad. The rest of her family has accompanied her to the auditions and it seems to work cos Ryan Seacrest arranges a phone call to her dad after she makes it to the second round and he seemed quite ok, I guess. David Cook – a bartender/musician. Inspired by Chris Daughtry and sings Bon Jovi’s Livin On A Prayer.
Leo Marlowe impresses the 3 American idol judges with his sense of humour and singing ability while singing A Song For You originally by Leon Russell but also famously covered by The Carpenters and Elliott Yamin in an earlier American Idol season.
Elizabeth Erkert – 19 year old who sang Heard It Through The Grapevine by Marvin Gaye.
Denise Jackson – 17 year old who sings Jennifer Hudson’s One Night Only.
