Brooke White American Idol Song Hero Mariah Carey Theme
Watch Brooke White, Top 7 Season 7 2008 contestant, sing the Mariah Carey song, Hero. Mariah Carey at the start of the video mentions how the song was written by her for Gloria Estefan to sing – this was for the soundtrack to the movie Hero. Eventually she sang it herself but got embroiled in controversy when the driver of Sly Stone (of Sly & The Family Stone) claimed the lyrics were actually written by him and that Sly had given the lyrics to Carey. The lawsuit was eventually thrown out.
Getting back to Brooke White’s performance this week – I’ve not been a great fan of Brooke, but this week her voice doing Mariah Carey was a welcome relief after some ordinary performances by contestants before her. My only quibble was that she rushed some parts of the song and so there was an unintentional inconsistency to the tempo of the song.
