Carly Smithson American Idol Song Jesus Christ Superstar Theme Andrew Webber Top 6

Watch Carly Smithson, Top 6 Season 7 2008 contestant, sing the song theme from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar.

I’m writing this after Carly Smithson was eliminated from American Idol. Haven’t been a great Carly fan so my way, your way, anything goes tonight. I thought the vocals were fine and that’s about all I can think about writing on someone who I know has already been sent home.

I’ll say the same thing I said the second she stopped singing– yeah this was a great song for her voice, BUT a strong contingent of Carly voter live down here in the Bible Belt where we LOVE our Southern Rock powerhouse voices, but we love Jesus more. ANY church goer who hasn’t actually seen Jesus Christ Superstar was immediately turned of not by the performance, but by the lyric. i think that is truly truly sad. I hate that I had to listen to Jason Castro BUTCHER Bob Marley when I could have heard Carly belt out Queen, Heart, Pat Benetar, or even KISS. I really really liked Carly, I was hoping she’d make it further than CERTAINLY either Brooke White or the insanely bad Jason Castro (on THAT note HOW IN THE WIDE WORLD does that boy do it… granted “Memory” is one of the worst songs ever written, but his performance of it was horrifying I couldn’t even SIT through it! And yet his survives??!?!?! HOW?) To go on and just destroy 2 of the best songs ever written this week… YEESH
