Tonight, watch Carly Smithson – one of the Top 11 contestants at American Idol 2008 Season 7 – sing the Beatles song Blackbird. The theme was Beatles night. I can’t understand what Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul were raving about. You take the simplicity of Paul McCartney’s voice – how that worked. This was a good singer trying to demonstrate her prowess and nothing more. I actually found Carly Smithson’s performance funny. It felt like – when you’re feeling really jobless and try to annoy someone by singing a few lines over and over again in higher and higher scales.
