Tonight, watch Syesha Mercado – one of the Top 12 contestants at American Idol 2008 Season 7 – sing the Beatles song Got To Get You Into My Life. The theme was Lennon/McCartney night.
I don’t know what Simon heard, but to repeat what I’ve been saying through this season – Syesha can power the higher scales but she’s quite weak on the lower notes, and that was pretty apparent today with her being off key in a lot of places in this performance. She seemed a little caught out when Randy Jackson mentioned the fact that she was doing the Earth, Wind & Fire version here – like she expected everyone to think she’d thought out the arrangement herself. She’s a little too sure of herself and could be in for a send-off in the not too distant future. Doubt if she’ll be out tomorrow. People seem to think she’s a big deal.
